Time Machine, “You do not have access privilieges to save…”

Time Machine is generally a very valuable and useful tool, but like any tool when it breaks you need to be able to fix it. One issue that Time Machine doesn’t seem to resolve well is it’s lock files… I ran into a issue where my mother-in-laws system was reporting “You do not have access privileges to save file “.001ee2057899”.

But of course, when I went to the Time Machine disk, I didn’t see any file named “.001ee2057899”. Here’s where I help anyone that has had this problem. The Finder is hiding the file. It’s obvious in hindsight, but it’s a DOT file. The finder has been programmed to hide any file that starts with a period/dot.

Note, the .001ff3584doc file. Now you can either open a terminal, and then CHMOD the ownership of the file. Or, instead I just deleted the file, and allowed Time Machine to recreate it.

Simply as pie. But I can’t explain why WordPress died when I attempted to copy & paste the Terminal screen capture above. I was forced to substitute the PNG.
