The survey of 3000 UK parents, carried out by website TheBabyWebsite.com, happily blamed television for children’s bad dreams:
All children suffer from nightmares at some point during childhood. But there is no doubt that viewing unnecessary violence and hostility on television contributes to this.
Doctor Who, in particular, was singled out for being ‘too dark and sinister for under seven-year-olds,’ with the majority of those polled wanting it to be pushed to a later, less kid-friendly timeslot.
Excuse me… Who here thinks that Doctor Who is a Television show for those under 7? I’m sorry, I know that I was watching Doctor Who 25+ years ago, when I was somewhere in the 8 – 10 range…
But I would never consider letting my 5 year old watch it. Heck, she had some issues with WALL-E…. The introduction of EVE was just a little too violent for her, but once that settled down, she was fine…
Would I let her watch Doctor Who? Only if I pre-watched the episode or movie, and she was sitting with us. Doctor Who isn’t something for young kids (under 7 or 8) to be watching by themselves, without some adult supervision…
