Insteon Health check…

Folks…

Have I got a product for you!  Yes sir!  Is your home automation system feeling a little ill?  Maybe a little run down?  Are your Insteon modules just ignoring you every now and then.  Then I have the product for you.

With this special offer, I present to you SeanAdams Insteon Health Script…  The Script is available here: http://www.seanadams.com/ha/insteon_health/

First, You need a 2412U or 2413U powerline modem for this to work, a 2414U will not work.  Second, this is a currently a command line application…  So you will have to use the terminal application to run the script…  ( Go –> Utilities –> Terminal).

For command-line beginners here is how to run it:

• save the script in your home directory
• Quit Indigo
• open Terminal
• type “sudo cpan -i Device::SerialPort” to install a required module
• type “chmod +x insteon_health.pl” to make the script executable
• type “./insteon_health.pl” to run the script
• follow the instructions to generate your device list
• type “./insteon_health.pl” to run it again

The astericks (*) are equivalent to “pings”, the lower the number, the better.  A dash (-) appears to be “unable to reach”, or “Timeout”.

Currently, you will want to edit out the device listings for X10 devices, TriggerLincs, RemoteLincs, and Insteon Motion Sensors.  The script does not handle X10 devices, and the other RF based Insteon devices probably won’t be awake when the script runs, and thus will cause a poor result for those devices.

Please note, I did *NOT* create this script.  Currently support is offered here..
