Kodak sues RIM & Apple

Randy Gorbman (Rochester, N.Y.) – Kodak says it is filing lawsuits against Apple and Research in Motion (RIM) alleging the infringement of Kodak Digital Imaging technology.

Kodak has filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission claiming that Apple iPhones, and the camera-enabled Blackberry devices infringe on a Kodak patent that involves technology related to a method for previewing images.

In a separate action, Kodak filed two lawsuits against Apple in Western New York Federal Court. Those were in regards to patents related to digital cameras, and also technology used by computer programs.

Kodak says it is not trying to disrupt the availability of any product, but wants to obtain fair compensation for the use of its technology.

Kodak noted that it has licensed technology to about 30 companies.
