Leading Gaming Service Expands to Mac Platform
Valve announced today it will bring Steam, Valve's gaming service, and Source, Valve's gaming engine, to the Mac.
Steam and Valve's library of games including Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series will be available in April.
“As we transition from entertainment as a product to entertainment as a service, customers and developers need open, high-quality Internet clients,” said Gabe Newell, President of Valve. “The Mac is a great platform for entertainment services.”
Boy, did I call it…. Â Available in April…
Maybe not April 1st, like I had suspected, but definitely not Christmas time… Â Well, okay, that was mostly refering to Portal 2… Â But still, we’ll see… Â <grin>
It’ll be nice, but I hope that I don’t have to repurchase the Orange box to get Portal for the Mac.
— Update…
Valve also announced that game licenses can transgress platforms, so any game that you purchased for the PC will also work once it comes to the Mac, with no additional fee.
Whoo Hoo! Â Great news for us… Â So, no need to purchase the orange box…. Â And they have stated that Portal 2 will be released for the Mac & PC simultaneously.
Excellent work Steam! Â I’ll be looking forward to more great games….
